What is a breastfeeding support mom?

Breastfeeding support moms are there to listen, support, and coach the new mother or mother-to-be and families who wish to breastfeed their child(ren). Support moms are mothers who have breastfed their child(ren), and who attended a training course about breastfeeding. They are offered training regularly with Moms for Milk to continue to learn and stay up-to-date on the recent recommendations. Support moms are motivated volunteers, who care deeply about the wellbeing of mothers, babies and families, and who are available at all times to support people who wish to breastfeed.

How can I get a breastfeeding support mom?

Simply complete the form!

We serve Brossard, Saint-Lambert, Greenfield Park, and Le Moyne.

What services do support moms offer?

They offer bilingual help by phone, in a respectful and open-minded manner. Support moms are there to listen, share information, answer your questions, help you overcome breastfeeding difficulties, and direct you towards other resources if need be. Your support mom is also there to chat and will be your cheerleader! They are also mothers first and foremost and can therefore answer all kinds of questions you might have.

Who can be paired with a support mom?

All mothers who breastfeed or hope to breastfeed and who would like to have access to help can be paired with a support mom. All are welcome: those who are expecting their first child and those who already have many; those who are pregnant and those who adopt; those who are certain that they wish to breastfeed and want support and those who are unsure and want information; those who breastfeed exclusively and those who do mixed breastfeeding; those who have been unsuccessful at breastfeeding so far but still wish to try; and those who already breastfeed successfully but have some questions.

When can I be paired with a support mom?

It is never too early, or too late, to ask to be paired with a support mom! You can contact us during your pregnancy, this way you will get to know your support mom before baby arrives, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and get information to help prepare yourself. You can also ask for a support mom after the birth of your child if you encounter difficulties with breastfeeding and are looking for help in a hurry.

Most of the time, we accompany mothers for at least the first three months of their baby’s life. You could also have questions after this period, for example about breastfeeding when you return to work, during the introduction of solid foods, or about weaning. Do not hesitate to contact us no matter the age of your breastfed child.
